Electricity

Electricity is used to light our houses and streets and to run the many appliances we use for heating, cooking, cooling, cleaning and communicating.

People who manufacture our food products and who make building and clothing materials and nearly everything else we buy, could not produce their goods without electricity.

With electricity we are able to feed, shelter and clothe the many millions of our world's population. If electricity stopped flowing today, the world would be in chaos within a week.

More than half our electricity is currently made using the energy of burning coal. At our current rate of use, the world's coal supplies will by gone in around 200 years!

We need to conserve our coal supplies by not wasting electricity, but we also need to start switching to alternative energy sources to make electricity. If we don't, the world will soon be in big trouble!
